Hugo supports getting the modified date automatically from git:
Could we add similar feature and even get the publish date from git so that if it is missing we can just respect what git has?
There was a discussion somewhere, can’t remember where though. Not a huge fan of that feature, as it can conflate some change you might not want be shown, eg fixing a typo on a 5 years old article should imo not show that it was modified last week since the rest of the content is probably outdated.
