I’m interested in incorporating git commit information into my site templates like [Hugo’s .GitInfo](https://gohugo.io/variables/git/) object. I’m more than happy trying to implement this feature myself, but I wanted to see if:

1. it was a feature that others wanted
2. there’s a reason it can’t or shouldn’t be done
3. it’s in the works somewhere already or implemented some other way
